Google Static Street View images complete / addition of Map page

I’ve gone through the whole site and changed the embedded Google Street Views for static API images. This will ensure that the Street Views load and also improves the load time for all pages. Each Street View image is also clickable and will take you to a new browser tab with Street View full screen.

I’ve also started building a Map page, where I am building a My Google map to embed into the page. This is the same as David’s KMZ file but will be updated with all the other locations I’ve found since using it.

Google Street View static images

As you may have noticed, the embedded Street Views sometimes do not load properly. This is because of either too many calls being made from each webpage, or the WordPress has a problem trying to embed so many in one page.

I’ve started to use the Google Street View API to embed a static image taken live from Street View itself. This reduces page load times and also guarantees that all Street View images load correctly.

Once each image is placed on the site, I’ve also made it clickable, opening a new browser tab with the Street View full-screen.

Main story largely finished

The first pass of the film is now complete and I have placed the documented locations into the story, but will continue to scour the web for any more clues as to possible missing locations.

I have also removed the separate ‘Cut Scenes’ page. It would be nigh on impossible to find most of them, let alone have decent screenshots to put onto the site. For the moment, only one cut scene is in the story run-through – in Part 5 where Max tends to his wounds before killing Johnny the Boy.

The next task is to go through the film again in order to add more screenshots and text to the storyline where possible.

All photos now uploaded

I’ve successfully gone through the whole film and taken photos of all the different locations. These have now been uploaded onto the site and then the next task will be to note down the locations for those photos by finding them on Google Maps and Street View.

If you find any scenes that are missing please do not hesitate to let me know by using the Contact page.

More locations and structure improved

I’ve settled on a layout now for the site – on each page along with the part number, there is a main heading, and a story runthrough. For nearly all screenshots I have added a Google Street View and Google Maps link, but have now also kept a line separately from the scene description in order to state the location itself. This should allow for greater clarity when readers are looking for locations.

So far I’ve added nearly all locations up to Goose’s ride, and will continue to add these as I go through the film.

Opening chase sequence added

I have worked to get the opening chase added on the PART 1 page. There are some shots that are still missing and I need to add the Nightrider’s crash location, but I’m happy with the general look and how it’s going so far.

A note about splitting the film into parts: this is done because Google has trouble with too many embedded objects (in this instance Street View and Maps), so I’ve decided to split the film into separate parts, in order to reduce the amount of load on the website. In other sites I’ve built this way, there have been problems with Street Views loading when too many embedded objects are on one page and trying to load at the same time.
